64 curved squares of rubber
2022
64 squares of rubber 10x10 cm in a closed pattern are all bent by joining two superimposed corners. This creates a new open pattern of a total of 32 squares (24 squares and 16 half-squares). The squares in this pattern are rotated 45 degrees from the original pattern.

Pointillist square
2022
During the pandemic, Nico Kok collected many used construction toys from second-hand stores and internet.
He also collected ministeck. Ministeck is a simple and ingenious play principle: with plugging, loosening, re-plugging and designing you can make a mosaic of a image. Nico made a square of the ministeck pieces.
There are five different pieces of ministeck in many colors. Two pieces of the five have a certain direction. By giving the ministeck pieces in the square a different direction from its surroundings, it is recognizable. Not because of the color because the color of the pieces are randomly chosen.

Eleven squares in the corner
2021
Eleven squares of 3mm round steel are hung in sequence in a corner with the upright sides of the squares resting against both walls of the corner. This creates a pyramid of squares with the smallest square on top.

Half open square
2021
Two cuts are made in a canvas to create triangle with the long side still attached to the canvas.
This triangle is bent so that the back of the cutout is visible.
A semi-open square is now visible.

Open square in square
2021
Two cuts are made in a canvas, creating four triangles that are still attached to the canvas on the long side.
The triangles are folded over on the long side, creating a square with a color of the back of the canvas, but also an open square. The open square has assumed a diamond shape.

The artwork is made of recycle material.
Packaging material of expanded polystyrene or of less expanded polysterene is used for the work.
First cubes or incomplete cubes are cut of the packaging material.
Then the polystyrene is modified with a self-developed special way
(in a tumbling machine for stones).
With a special glue de "cubes" are brought together on a polysterene plate. The surface is fixed with matte varnish.
The artwork is light weight, 4,5 kg.
